Black & Veatch’s Management Consulting Division Introduces Safety And Crisis Management Solutions

Black & Veatch announced today that it has added a new Safety and Crisis Management solution set for energy and water utilities through its Enterprise Management Solutions (EMS) management consulting division.

The new solution set will assist clients in optimizing safety and crisis management capabilities through performance of crisis management and safety system assessments. The EMS solution set also includes implementation of best practices in operational safety, and in developing management and response plans for effective hazard identification, mitigation, emergency preparedness and response plans for natural and man-made threats.

The solution set will be headed by John Borowski, CIH, CSP, National Consulting Practice Leader of Safety and Health for Black & Veatch. Prior to joining EMS, Borowski led efforts that developed the innovative Safety-Thru-Design Initiative for Black & Veatch’s water business, which has allowed the company to proactively identify potentially unsafe conditions and design, or install, safety devices that enhance safe operations and reduce risk.

Borowski also led the company’s efforts resulting in U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and the American Water Works Foundation grant support for the research project “Integration of Worker Safety and Health into Water Utility Management, Operation and New Facility Design. ”

In the energy sector, Borowski played a key role in helping the American Public Power Association update its Safety and Health Manual with the most current laws, standards and best practices.

“Our client’s operations are vital to the health and safety of the communities they serve,” said Rodger Smith, President of EMS. “John’s new focus will allow us to share this expertise with energy and water clients, supporting the continuity of their safe operations through a variety of possible crisis situations. ”

In addition to helping Black & Veatch maintain a strong safety record, Borowski assisted in development of best practices for safety and crisis management initiative for water utilities in 23 major cities including New York, Los Angeles and Minneapolis, and assisted one of the world’s largest energy companies with its safety and crisis initiative.

The scope of services available from the new EMS solution set includes construction safety, hazard identification and mitigation, health, safety and environmental program audits, process safety, hazard and operability reviews, safety and health program development, crisis management analysis and planning, emergency preparedness support and litigation support.
